  • May 2026 Subway Works Update

    Dear Residents,

We are writing to update you on the progress of the highway infrastructure works in Wymondham, following the most recent road closures in March and April 2026.

Firstly, we would like to take this opportunity to invite you to meet with Taylor Wimpey, Vistry and the appointed contractor at Wymondham Rugby Club, Barnard Fields, Bay Drive, NR18 0GQ at 6.30pm on Tuesday 19th May 2026. This will be an opportunity for residents and stakeholders to hear a brief overview of the subway works project, understand the remaining works being undertaken and ask the project team questions.

We would also like to acknowledge and apologise to local residents and stakeholders for the frustrations and inconvenience that the road closures have caused, especially given the extended length of time that residents have already experienced disruption in the area.

Throughout the March and April road closures, residents and stakeholders raised several concerns to us and we wanted to take this opportunity to provide all affected residents with the relevant information on these matters.

    Schedule of road closures

Due to the complexity of the Wymondham subway improvements, it has been essential to complete the work in phases. All road closures associated with the subway works have been approved by Norfolk County Council (NCC) and have only been permitted in the weeks directly before, after and during school holidays. This approach is intended to minimise traffic disruption and help protect children’s safety during term time.

Another key constraint is that all the utility diversions need to be carried out by the relevant utility providers before we can progress to the next stages of the required works. Therefore, our timeline is based on the lead times that the utility companies provide, alongside the limited road closure opportunities outlined.

We also understand the concerns about the wider network, including the Hethel roundabout works, and take these into account during our ongoing discussions with the local authority when planning and scheduling our activity.

    Traffic management

We recognise that there have been concerns regarding drivers using alternative public highways rather than the approved diversion route. We would like to reassure you that we take the safety of residents in Wymondham seriously and have approached NCC to discuss these concerns.

Prior to any road closures or works commencing, all proposed diversion routes and associated signage are submitted for approval by NCC. Ahead of the most recent road closures, we raised residents’ concerns about drivers using Silfield Street instead of the agreed diversion route with NCC and our contractor installed additional signage on Silfield Street and Bridge Road to prevent drivers from accessing this route. This signage will also be used during our final road closures in autumn 2026.

While we hope that this additional signage deters drivers from using these alternative routes, unfortunately, we cannot prevent vehicles from using the wider public highway network.

    Contractor working hours

The approved working hours for the subway works are Monday to Friday between 7.30am and 5.30pm, and between 7.30am and 1pm on Saturdays, which are agreed between the contractor and NCC in accordance with our approved plans.

We understand residents’ concerns that the site may appear quiet at times during the closures. However, actual on-site activity can vary by day depending on the specific tasks underway, including inspections, deliveries and utility provider attendance. This does not mean that the programme of works will be prolonged any further, as work is being carried out at the earliest opportunity.

We have shared residents’ concerns with our contractors and asked them to ensure that work is completed in accordance with the approved programme.

    Upcoming works

The Fibre Broadband diversion is set to be completed this summer by OpenReach, Virgin Media 02 and Open Fibre Networks. The works for this diversion will be completed between 18th May and 29th September 2026, however road closures will not be required for this diversion and disruption to the community will be kept to a minimum. We have also reviewed the current closure of Cemetery Lane to determine when the road can be safely reopened. The road has been closed for the duration of the major drainage and subway-related works and is anticipated to be reopened on Thursday 16th July 2026. We have been asked by NCC to extend our scope of work to improve the surfacing of Cemetery Lane. These works are currently on approval with NCC and a short road closure will be required for these to be completed. These will be linked to the autumn road closures of Station Road so that all resurfacing works can be completed at the same time.

Our contractors will also be completing the footpath under the subway, allowing for pedestrian access from the end of July 2026.

In autumn, the next phase of work will involve a road closure for the raised footpath removal, surface water drainage and the final realignment and resurfacing of the highway on Station Road. This will be the final road closure during the Wymondham subway works, and the programme of works is currently being finalised. Once agreed, we will provide you with a further update on the closure, and all details of any diversions will be available online via https://one.network/.

Between Monday 5th and Wednesday 7th October 2026, we will also be undertaking some intensive railway works to reinstate platform one at Wymondham Station. We would like to reassure you that this additional work being completed will not increase the autumn road closure outlined above, however it will involve overnight work. We will work closely with Network Rail to provide residents with further information ahead of the planned works.

    Final completion

We anticipate all highway infrastructure works will be completed in December 2026. The site team will then undertake demobilisation of the area, with contractors expected to be off-site by the end of January 2027.

We hope this provides you with a sufficient update on the current status of the Wymondham subway works. We appreciate your patience and understanding as we continue to progress the required works, and please be assured that we are committed to keeping the Wymondham community informed. Once the autumn road closures have been confirmed, we will write to you again with a further update.

In the meantime, if you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to contact us at [email protected]

    Kind regards,

Taylor Wimpey East Anglia and Vistry Group

  • March 2026 Subway Works Update

    Dear resident/neighbour,

RE: Wymondham subway works update – March 2026

We are writing to update you on the progress of the highway infrastructure works in Wymondham, specifically regarding the upcoming phased closures scheduled for spring 2026.

We would like to acknowledge the incorrect email address that was provided in our previous correspondence to you. We sincerely apologise for this oversight. It is always our intention for all affected residents to receive the correct information so that we can address any questions or concerns directly. You will find the correct details at the end of this letter.

The next stage of the subway works will focus on the diversion of an Anglian Water potable water main and will require phased closures on Station Road. Please be assured that each phase will be clearly signposted within the area, with advance warning provided.

The phased closures are outlined below.:

    • Saturday 28th March to Sunday 12th April 2026 – full road closure
    • Monday 13th April to Sunday 19th April 2026 – partial road closure with traffic management signals between Rightup Lane and Stanleys Lane
    • Monday 20th April to Sunday 26th April 2026 – full road closure

Details of any diversions can be found online via https://one.network/.

In our previous correspondence, we informed you that we were reviewing the current closure of Cemetery Lane to determine when the road can safely be reopened. The road will be closed for the duration of the major drainage and subway-related works, with the reopening of the road anticipated for Thursday 16th July 2026.

Following the completion of our utility diversion works in March and April 2026, the next phase of work will involve raised footpath removal, surface water drainage and the final realignment and resurfacing of the highway on Station Road. We anticipate these works to be undertaken in autumn 2026, and we will write to all residents once the finalised programme of works has been agreed.

As part of the planning obligations of Taylor Wimpey’s and Vistry’s development, highway improvements are also set to be completed in late 2026. The improvements will include a new toucan crossing, which will be implemented as part of the autumn subway works outlined in this letter. Traffic signals will also be installed at the junction of London Road and Station Road. The design for the traffic signals is currently with Norfolk County Council for approval, and we will provide you with a further update once agreed.

Between the 5th and 7th October 2026, we will be undertaking some intensive railway works to reinstate Platform 1 at Wymondham Station. We would like to reassure you that this additional work being completed will not increase the road closures outlined above, however it will involve overnight work. We will work closely with Network Rail to provide residents with further information ahead of the planned works.

We appreciate that these road closures may cause disruption, and we would like to thank you for your patience and understanding while we complete these works. In the meantime, if you have any questions or concerns, please contact us at [email protected].

    Kind regards,

Taylor Wimpey East Anglia and Vistry Group
